This year, Waterbury Winterfest will run for a full ten days, encompassing two weekends as well as the week between, from January 17–26, 2014!
Proudly listing the Alchemist Brewery as the event’s Title Sponsor, Waterbury Winterfest will once again celebrate all kinds of recreation in Waterbury and this year Winterfest will also host a Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday the 20th as well as encourage folks to come out during the rest of the week to enjoy our vibrant down town. The community is invited to watch, cheer, and participate in these events.
On Friday, January 17th, there will be an ice sculpting demonstration on Stowe Street presented by Blue Stone Pizza's Chris Fish in front of the Art Opening at
Axels Frame Shop.
On Friday, January 25, Harwood Union High School will be competing on the Dascomb Rowe Park fields in the heart of Waterbury’s downtown.  Saturday the 18th will feature Back Country Adventure on snow shoes, cross country skis and telemark skis.  Saturday the 25th will boast a National Guard Rappeling Demonstration and snow shoe obstacle course race next to the Ice Center. The 10 days of Waterbury Winterfest will also include broomball tournaments, fun runs, a snow mountain bike race, a community bonfire and skating party, and, new this year, a sledding party and Winterfest Dance at the Country Club of Vermont.
The two weekends and midweek are filled with a fun mix of activities, some familiar and some new. Hockey players and fans can see Nordic ski racers under the lights at Dascob Rowe Park on Friday, and the Nordic skiers can support the hockey teams at the Ice Center on Saturday. Everyone can come together for the fun run, broom ball tournament and Ice Center Exhibitions on Sunday. The midweek will give downtown businesses a chance to get in on the fun with a poetry slam, a trivia contest, a wassailing competition, and a Moxie Theater productions stage show.  Meanwhile the outdoor recreation continues into the night with head lamp snow shoe tours, cross country skiing, and even a winter bike ride!
