2nd ANNUAL WATERBURY WINTERFEST BIGGER AND BETTER THIS YEAR
This year, Waterbury Winterfest will run for a full ten days, encompassing two weekends as well as the week between, from January 17–26, 2014!
Proudly listing the Alchemist Brewery as the event’s Title Sponsor, Waterbury Winterfest will once again celebrate all kinds of recreation in Waterbury and this year Winterfest will also host a Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday the 20th as well as encourage folks to come out during the rest of the week to enjoy our vibrant down town. The community is invited to watch, cheer, and participate in these events.
On Friday, January 17th, there will be an ice sculpting demonstration on Stowe Street presented by Blue Stone Pizza's Chris Fish in front of the Art Opening at
Axels Frame Shop.
On Friday, January 25, Harwood Union High School will be competing on the Dascomb Rowe Park fields in the heart of Waterbury’s downtown. Saturday the 18th will feature Back Country Adventure on snow shoes, cross country skis and telemark skis. Saturday the 25th will boast a National Guard Rappeling Demonstration and snow shoe obstacle course race next to the Ice Center. The 10 days of Waterbury Winterfest will also include broomball tournaments, fun runs, a snow mountain bike race, a community bonfire and skating party, and, new this year, a sledding party and Winterfest Dance at the Country Club of Vermont.
Visitors and locals, spectators and participants, varsity athletes, youth league competitors,
winter sports enthusiasts of every age and every ability are invited to participate in Waterbury
Winterfest and experience the world-class outdoor recreation opportunities that exist all
around Waterbury. Residents and kids will be able to learn about outstanding winter sports
opportunities available to them in and around Waterbury, Vermont's recreation crossroads.
When: Friday, January 17 through Sunday January 26
Where: Waterbury: Dascomb Rowe Park in downtown Waterbury will host Nordic skiing events.
The Recrecation Center will host broomball, and the skating and bonfire party. The Ice Center will
host ice exhibitions and hockey games indoors, as well as back country adventures outdoors.
And the Country Club of Vermont will host the sledding party and the Winterfest Dance!
Competitors will pay nominal registration fees to participate in some events. Funds will be raised to support recreational opportunities and economic growth in Waterbury. Organized by the Waterbury
Recreation Committee, Harwood Nordic, and many Winterfest Planning volunteers.
